I'm kind of over seeing the last post show up every time I log on to blog stalk, so I'll do a birthday post for miss Mackenz! Sheesh, you'd think getting the post up in its own right would be motivation enough… not for me I guess!

Mackenzi. She is my favorite middle child ;) She is such a goof ball, and asks randomly if what she just said or did was funny. *chews with her mouth open and gets reminded to close her mouth while eating* - "is that funny momma?" "No mackenzi, it's not funny, it's not polite." "Yeah, but is it funny?" She's gearing up to be a class clown, that one is! She really is hilarious a lot of the time, but sometimes she has a hard time distinguishing between naughty and funny. Don't we all?
Mackenzi is no longer the peacemaker in the Brooklin Mackenzi relationship. She sticks up for herself and fights for her right to play with whatever toy is being negotiated. I try and let the girls "work it out" themselves when they both want a toy, but it doesn't always work out so well since they're both quite strong headed. Luckily they really only get super rowdy when they're goofing off, not when they're fighting so much, which is great. I'd much rather hear squeals of delight (even though screaming and
that kind of squealing is NOT allowed) than squeals of UHHH mommmmmm! I wanted _______ but ______ won't give it to meeee!! etc. I did love it when she was a peace maker, but I'm also proud of her for sticking up for herself.

She is SUCH a tom boy! I can't figure out where it rooted, but it drives me crazy a little bit. I don't mind that she is well rounded with what she plays with - dolls, dress up, trucks, trains, tools, necklaces etc - but I start to get homophobic when she ends up being the "prince" in all the roll playing scenarios. I think
that started out with Brooklin insisting she be the prince to her princess, but Mackenzi actually will prefer to be the prince lately. I think her favorites are Flynn Rider and the Beast. Although, now that I'm typing this out, I've noticed PLENTY of times when Mackenzi will refuse a certain cup or bowl or fork etc, but only after she looks back and forth between the item and Brooklin, as if thinking, well I know Brooklin loves this, should I save it for her? And perhaps it's the same way with being a prince, perhaps she has a bit of a peace keeper in her still after all!
Mackenzi LOVES her little brother and that boy LOVES Mackenzi too. He will let her snuggle her MUCH longer than Brooklin. In fact, he often will start fussing as soon as he gets put in Brooklin's lap. But with Mackenzi, he'll turn his chubby little face up to her and give her a big (now toothy) grin and just nestle his head back on her shoulder. So sweet! She loves to open the door to his room when he wakes up and always welcomes him from his slumber with a loud "awwww, HEY bubba!" I love her little voice. So cute!

She's starting to draw faces, and loves to "read books." She's good at summarizing. She LOVES Christmas songs. She's requested Jingle Bell Rock and "Dashing Through the Snow" every night when I put her to bed AND for naps as well for the last multiple months.
She LOVES going to pick up Brooklin from preschool because sometimes Miss Cindy will offer her a penny so that she can get a gum ball like the big kids. She is SO sweet and waits patiently to be offered. There's been a few times when she didn't get offered (it's chaotic in there sometimes with all the kids getting ready and the parents chatting etc, a quiet little girl is easy to overlook!) and she would hang her head down as we walked back to the van and start to get a little cry sound in her voice and tell me "mom, she didn't offer me a gum ball." Not in a whiney voice, but in a dejected voice. It breaks my heart! She's such a good kid!

A big one next: she's recently been potty trained! I don't even remember when we started, but it's been a least two weeks. She still wears diapers for naps and nighttime, but more often than not she'll wake up with a dry diaper. Usually the times she's peed is when I've been downstairs and didn't hear her wake up right away, or when she wakes up in the night and Trenton goes to comfort her because he NEVER remembers to have the girls go potty at night time. Anyway, in other words, I think with a little more practice at remembering to ASK to go potty instead of needing to be told to go, she'll be in panties full time! She is so in love with her big girl panties. She's noticed and been interested in them probably not too much time after Brooklin was potty trained, which was just over a year ago now.
Mackenzi is definitely a Momma's girl. She even calls me momma sometimes which I LOVE. I don't know where she picked it up from, but it's my favorite. "Momma, can I have some yogurt momma?" Yes! Yes of course you can you cute cute girl!

Mackenzi has been speaking really well for a really long time. I honestly can't remember when she COULDN"T talk. I think she has progressed in her vocabulary a ton, but I think her quality of speaking has been very good since she was just over 18 months. It's SUPER easy to forget that Mackenzi is JUST barely 3, and not actually 5 or 6. Seriously. It doesn't help that she's tall. Have I mentioned that I LOVE that she's tall!? I hope she loves it too. I'm going to have to make sure I don't make Brooklin feel bad for not being as tall as Mackenzi! I definitely only speak positively about having a lot of height, and hopefully it will rub off on her.

This year Mackenzi got to have a LOT of celebrations prior to her actual birthday. She had a combined birthday party with the Grandparents Little before her grandma little had to head off to Alaska to see a new grand baby, she had a Nana and Papa birthday party with JUST her and her nana and papa - they took her out to dinner - and I think it was a hit! I recommend that two on one time to any grandparent out there reading this, I hope the tradition continues because I think it'll be a fun bonding time as well as something treasured by both grandparents and grandchild. She also had a nana papa birthday party before nana left to visit a different new grand baby. And finally, we had a family birthday celebration on her actual birthday this last Sunday, including Papa and Mark and Peggy, who, if I'm honest. are three of her favorites when it comes to family! She sure has a soft spot for Mark and Papa especially. She will run to either of them almost every time she sees them! I hope they love it, because I think it's precious and it's not going to last forever!

I sure love that girl and am so blessed to have her in our Little family! Here's to another fun filled year with that crazy girl!
